“Give me a pure heart—that I may see Thee,
A humble heart—that I may hear Thee,
A heart of love—that I may serve Thee,
A heart of faith –that I may abide in Thee.”
The above personal prayer of Dag Hammarskjold captures the kind of daily desire that every human being needs to increasingly seek and live. In our Christian life, it is the all-encompassing hunger and thirst which can only be satisfied when our hearts are relentlessly centered in Jesus. Our sense of purpose and new vision in life become clear as we attach earnestly our hearts to the center of our faith, the Risen Christ. In our mission calling, the Resurrection and Pentecost stories in the New Testament remind us that we can only make a liberating difference in the world if our hearts are constantly centered in the Risen Christ and passionately empowered by the Holy Spirit.
As we look forward to the celebration of Pentecost, I invite you to pray with me that God give us “a pure, humble, loving, and trusting heart” so that we live more purposefully, peacefully, and compassionately in Christ. Let the said prayer be our daily spiritual desire as we intentionally seek together a spiritual revival in our community church.
